Today morning we drove down to our parcel collection center and picked up a heavy packet. Exciting for it’s weight and that it contained books!

From the car to the main entrance and then to our apartment, I staggered. Not for the wine drunk but the rain and the over 10 kg weight I carried in a heavy carton.

Inside was a visual treasure. The book ‘Before They Pass Away’ by Jimmy Nelson. A collection of photographs of tribes and people. Dressed in their native pride and dignity as they pose in their traditional attire.

At a museum each photograph would merit many hours of study. The subject photographed, the setting, the composition, the beautiful lighting. Outdoors or in native dwellings.
Each face tells a mighty story of great richness.

Sadly too there are no such people left in Europe, North America or Australia it seems. The book spans South America, Asia, Africa and New Zealand. It has taken however a dedicated photographer from England to have recorded them all so patiently and with such insight.
