World Health Organisation : 2011-12
An assignment to photograph India’s elderly were specially commissioned by the World Health Organisation SEAR Head Office in New Delhi. The brief was to capture portraits that were true to the subjects setting and emotional state.
– Over 30 carefully identified senior citizens were photographed.
– Covering ages from 65 years to 94 years
– Across gender, sociology, economic and regional sections of Indian society
– Assignment spanning 2 months and covering the Indian sub-continent
As a photographer it was a very enriching experience. Interacting with a diverse choice of people. Establishing a level of comfort and friendship. Becoming a part of their lives. And ensuring that my camera captured them in their realities while being the most unobtrusive it could be.
These photographs are now being used extensively by WHO in its Healthy Aging advocacy material including display posters, newsletters, giveaways, films and reports.
